Trainee Probation Officer
The primary aim of the probation service is to protect the public from crime. This demands a disciplined but human approach.
The work of a probation officer is varied and challenging. It involves assessing and managing the risks that offenders pose in the community, whilst helping them to tackle problems which may lead to crime such as alcohol or drug abuse, aggressive behaviour, bad debts or unemployment.
The probation service works with the courts, the police, victims of crime, the prison service and many other organisations and agencies in the community to help reduce crime.
Could you:
- Motivate offenders so as to reduce the likelihood of reoffending?
- Ensure that court sentences are effectively carried out?
- Work with a range of organisations to reintegrate offenders into the community after they leave prison?
- Assess the risk offenders present to the public?
