Neighbourhood Safety

Justice Seen, Justice Done is a centrally funded campaign between the Ministry of Justice, South Yorkshire Probation and local councils. It was launched on 30 March to promote the Police Pledge and visibility of Community Payback to the public and will run for two weeks.

Community Payback is a tough and visible consequence for offenders. Receiving up to 300 hours offenders may find themselves painting and decorating community halls, cooking at pensioner lunch clubs or maintaining church yards. While carrying out work offenders are required to wear orange hi-visibility vests to improve visibility to the public.

Over 227,676 hours were carried out in South Yorkshire last year, this equates to a saving of £1.26million to all the school, community groups, churches and charities that benefited from the work.

The Justice Seen, Justice Done campaign aims to:

3000 Community Payback hours have been ringfenced and South Yorkshire Probation have worked with local CDRPs to find projects the public would like completing. The week beginning 6 April advertorials will appear in the local press and on radio stations asking local residents to vote on their favorite projects. Five projects have been identified in each of Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham. Keep an eye out in the local press for details of the winning project in your area.
