Annual Audit Letter

The Audit Commission is an independent body responsible for ensuring that public money is spent economically, efficiently and effectively, to achieve high-quality local and national services for the public. Their remit covers around 11,000 bodies in England, which between them spend more than £180 billion of public money each year.

As an independent watchdog, they provide important information on the quality of public services. As a driving force for improvement in those services, they provide practical recommendations and spread best practice. As an independent auditor, they monitor spending to ensure that public services are good value for money. Status of our reports to the Board. Each year, an annual audit letter is published on the specific audit work undertaken by the commission of the work of South Yorkshire Probation Area.

Race and Equality Scheme

South Yorkshire Probation Area is committed to the promotion of race equality in everything we do – how we do our job, the people who work for us, the communities we serve. As well as our own commitment, we are also required by law to put in place a race equality scheme. The plan published here outlines how our scheme helps us to put our commitment into practice.

What does our race equality scheme aim to do?

  • Achieve racial tolerance;
  • Achieve race equality;
  • Promote good race relations.

How will we do that?

One of the key things we do is to make sure that minority ethnic communities know who we are and what we do. We have built better links with your communities and do our best to give you the information you need and get your views about us. We also want you to see the probation service as a potential career to enter. Already, we have a good percentage of ethnic minority employees but we need to widen our appeal and give you the information you need. If you work for the probation service, we make sure you get the support you need to develop and progress. We also constantly check our working practices and our policies to make sure they are fair and equal and if they are not, we will do something positive about it.
